“I feel a thousand capacities spring up in me. I am arch, gay, languid, melancholy by turns. I am rooted, but I flow.” ― Virginia Woolf, The Waves
This quote resonates with me on so many levels, especially in the realm of yoga where the goal is to be both grounded and strong, yet fluid and soft—a dance of opposites that mirrors the universal truth of yin and yang.
It also serves as a gentle reminder that we are multifaceted beings. Society often nudges us towards either/or, but truthfully, we can be many things all at once. I struggle more when I resist this idea – when I hunt for concrete answers and want a single solid truth. It is just all more complicated than that.
The truth is:
I can love my job AND explore various movement styles in my personal practice.
I can hold grief AND share laughter with friends.
I can enjoy parties with friends AND still crave stillness and isolation.
I can love Shakespeare AND the Fast and the Furious franchise 🙈😂…
…you get the idea.
So here’s to embracing all of it. Not just the shiny parts we curate for social media, but the entire mosaic of millions of different thoughts, ideas, feelings and actions that make us beautiful, messy, and Human.
Will you join me?
