As I write this, the first line of this song is on repeat in my head. It’s been there since yesterday when my 6-year-old, who came out of school singing it, put it there. Surprised that I knew the words, she was delighted as we all sang it at the tops of our voices on the way home in the car.

These words also remind me of this little note I have pinned on my noticeboard. This tag that simply says ‘shine your light’ was attached to my teacher training certificate – sent to me by my YTT tutors after I’d completed my training. Sitting there, mostly unnoticed for the past few years – I feel like it deserves a moment of recognition – and if it wasn’t for that song yesterday, I would most likely still be sitting at my desk ignoring it right now. Thank you, Universe.
As humans, we often tend to overcomplicate things, and I am no exception. So today, I am grounding myself in this wisdom. As I guide others through their yoga practice later today, I will carry it with me too. But it’s a lesson that extends beyond the mat and into the intricacies of daily living. It’s a lesson that teaches me to rise above the challenges, to trust in my offerings to the world, and to let go of the outcome. Something that Yoga teaches us, but can be difficult to put into practice in our daily lives.
So today I am not worrying about tomorrow, about the twists and turns of working for myself, about the decisions or indecisions of daily life, the small stuff.
Because the truth is -life is a series of peaks and valleys, of highs and lows. Yet, within each moment, our light is constant. It is a beacon we can return to, again and again.
So, as you navigate the twists and turns of your day, I invite you to look for your own version of the note on my noticeboard. Whether it’s a message from a friend, a quote that resonates, or a mantra that uplifts, let it be a reminder to let your light shine, a reminder to trust in it, trust in yourself. And perhaps, as we enter this wonderful season of letting go – that’s all we really need anyway?
